Region International Extemporaneous Speaking Champion
As a ninth grade, I was asking by our four time state champion Literary Coach, Mrs. Azalee, to replace a senior we lost last year for international extemporaneous speaking. It's definitely a mouthful to say, which relates to the task as well! It is basically an interview. We draw numbers on a time we will go, we then draw an unknown topic and have fifteen minutes to review any materials we have brought with us, write and memorize a speech on the topic, and then give your speech to a crowd with judges mixed in with people you know and people you don't. This event can be very difficult, especially if you are not familiar with your topic. It can also be a lot of fun if you enjoy public speaking! At region, I competed as the youngest in my division and came out on top! I am the 2012 Region Champion! Unfortunately, I drew a topic I that I not only lacked personal knowledge of, but of material facts as well! I ended up have to make up the entire speech! As a result of this, I then got to go with my team to the state competition! There I finished fourth in the state, and still contributed to our winning State Literary team! This year has been a learning experience, and I can not wait for another shot at state!
